AWS Development and Consulting Services

Senior engineers design and build on AWS, from serverless applications and data platforms to generative AI on Amazon Bedrock, connected to the systems your business already runs.

THE BASICS

What AWS Consulting Covers

AWS consulting services help companies design, build, secure, and operate applications on Amazon Web Services. AWS cloud consulting usually covers architecture, choosing among AWS's many services, security and access control, cost visibility, and day-to-day operations. Good consulting often means using fewer services well, not every service available.

Our AWS practice

JBS Dev's AWS development services focus on building: serverless applications, data platforms, machine learning, and generative AI, delivered into production and connected to the systems you already run.

AWS PARTNERSHIP

An AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner

JBS Dev is an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner with Generative AI, Migration, and Retail competencies.

In the AWS Partner Network, services partners progress through tiers based on AWS-validated experience, certified staff, and customer success, and Advanced is one of the program's upper tiers. An AWS competency is a separate designation that AWS grants after validating a partner's technical expertise and customer results in a specific area. Both are worth checking when you compare AWS consulting partners. Read more about our AWS partnership.

WHAT WE BUILD

AWS Services We Build With

Our AWS application development work centers on the services below, each chosen for the job rather than the other way around.

  • Amazon Bedrock

Amazon Bedrock gives access to foundation models for generative AI. We've used it to extract standardized data from Epic medical records, to power a knowledge base for a building materials manufacturer, and to build AI agents.

  • Amazon SageMaker

Amazon SageMaker trains and hosts machine learning models. For a manufacturer, we deployed a generative AI time-series forecasting model on SageMaker that reached 85 to 90% accuracy, with forecasts reaching internal systems through APIs. See machine learning.

  • AWS Lambda and serverless applications

AWS Lambda runs code without servers to manage, and you pay only for what runs. We moved a wine retailer's entire website to Lambda and built a daily pipeline that processes about 30,000 records for a regional bank.

  • Amazon Redshift and Amazon RDS

Amazon Redshift powers analytics at scale, and Amazon RDS runs managed relational databases such as PostgreSQL. We build data warehouse work on AWS and moved a shipping company's homegrown system onto RDS with automated backups and read replicas.

QUICK LAUNCH LAB

Start With a Focused AWS Session

These focused sessions are part of JBS Dev's Quick Launch Lab program, and several are free for qualifying organizations.

  • AWS Immersion Day: Redshift Workshop

A five-hour, virtual, hands-on workshop for groups of eight or more. It covers Amazon Redshift architecture, data modeling, loading and unloading data, table design and query tuning, security, operations, and backup and resizing. Attendees build a cluster, load data, tune queries, and try Redshift Spectrum, with JBS experts answering questions along the way.

  • AWS Immersion Day: RDS for PostgreSQL Workshop

A five-hour, virtual, hands-on workshop for groups of eight or more, led by JBS experts. It covers high availability and disaster recovery, scaling, backup and restore, upgrades and patching, performance monitoring, parameter groups, and security and compliance for Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL. JBS is certified to deliver AWS Immersion Days.

  • AWS Immersion Day: Retail Innovation Workshop

A virtual half-day or full-day session for at least four attendees, free for qualifying organizations. You bring a retail challenge or goal, and JBS Dev's retail technology experts work through it with you, from loyalty programs, mobile apps, and curbside pickup to machine learning for recommendations, fraud detection, and inventory.

  • AWS Well-Architected Review Session

Certified AWS Solution Architects review one business-critical workload against the six Well-Architected pillars in about 4 to 8 hours of virtual discovery. Within five business days you receive a report with recommendations, level of effort, cost estimates, and a roadmap. The session is $5,000, and for qualifying organizations AWS can issue a $5,000 credit once JBS implements the fixes.

  • AWS SageMaker Data Wrangler Accelerator

A complimentary half-day session led by JBS senior data architects. It walks through a sample use case: ingesting data from Amazon S3, feature engineering, building a data flow, and starting a SageMaker training job. You leave with a CloudFormation template of the demo's code and data so you can rebuild it yourself.

HOW IT WORKS

How an AWS Engagement Runs

A typical AWS engagement runs in five stages, from a Well-Architected review to a handoff to your team or ours.

  1. STEP 1

    Well-Architected review

We assess your current workload or plan against the six pillars of the AWS Well-Architected Framework.

  2. STEP 2

    Architecture and plan

Senior engineers choose the services, design the cloud-native architecture, and estimate cost.

  3. STEP 3

    Build in stages

We build and ship incrementally, with automated tests and CI/CD.

  4. STEP 4

    Launch

We move to production with monitoring and logging in place.

  5. STEP 5

    Optimize and hand off

We tune cost and performance, then hand over to your team or ours.

What your team gets at handoff

You own everything we build, in your own AWS account. Services we can provide at handoff include knowledge transfer sessions with your team and documentation of the architecture, environments, and deployments. Your team can run the environment from there, or we can provide ongoing support, with senior US-based engineers leading and nearshore support available for ongoing work.

RESULTS

AWS Results

For a direct-to-consumer wine retailer, JBS Dev moved the entire website to AWS Lambda by February 2020, and the site absorbed a 400% traffic increase with no outages. For a regional bank, JBS Dev automated a daily process handling about 30,000 records on AWS in just under four months.

"JBS feels more like an extension of our internal team than a traditional vendor relationship."

COST AND TIMELINE

What Drives AWS Project Cost and Timeline

AWS project cost and timeline depend on scope, data, and what the new system has to connect to.

  1. 01Scope and number of services
  2. 02Data volume
  3. 03Integrations with existing systems
  4. 04Security and compliance needs
  5. 05Who operates the environment afterward

How the timeline is set

Timelines depend on scope, and the assessment or a Well-Architected review sets them. Focused work moves quickly: a regional bank's daily data pipeline on AWS went from kickoff to running in just under four months. Larger builds ship in stages, so the first components reach production before the whole project is done.

How cost is set

We don't quote before we understand the workload. The assessment produces an estimate for the build and for the monthly AWS bill afterward, based on the services, data volume, and integrations involved. Serverless designs often cost less to run, because you pay only for what you use.

WHY JBS DEV

How to Choose an AWS Consulting Partner

Not every AWS consulting partner builds; some mostly resell. Ask these four questions before you choose one, and here is how we answer them.

Is the firm a verified AWS partner, and at what tier?
Yes. JBS Dev is an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner with Generative AI, Migration, and Retail competencies. Read more about our AWS partnership, where you can see the work behind each competency along with our AWS case studies.
Who does the work: a senior AWS consultant or a junior team?
A senior AWS consultant leads the work. Engagements are led by senior engineers and technical leaders who can make architecture, integration, and security decisions directly, with fewer handoffs and faster decisions.
Will they pick the right service, not the biggest one?
Yes. We pick models and platforms based on the task, accuracy needs, privacy, latency, and cost. Sometimes that means Lambda instead of servers, sometimes RDS instead of a warehouse, and sometimes fewer services than you expected.
Where is the team?
Senior US-based engineers lead our builds, with nearshore support available for ongoing work. From the first call, you will know exactly who is designing, building, and supporting your AWS environment.

FAQ

AWS Development Services FAQs

What do AWS development services include?

AWS development services cover designing, building, and running applications on AWS: architecture, serverless applications, data platforms, machine learning, generative AI, security, and cost control. Ours focus on production systems connected to what you already run, using services such as Lambda, RDS, SageMaker, and Bedrock.

What does it mean to be an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner?

It means AWS has recognized the partner at one of the upper tiers of its partner program, based on validated AWS experience, certified staff, and customer success. JBS Dev is an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner. Competencies are separate designations AWS grants for validated expertise in a specific area.

Which AWS competencies does JBS Dev hold?

JBS Dev holds three AWS competencies: Generative AI, Migration, and Retail. Each reflects AWS validation of technical expertise and customer results in that area. The work behind them includes generative AI on Amazon Bedrock, migrations to serverless AWS, and retail projects such as curbside pickup delivered in six weeks.

Can you build generative AI applications on Amazon Bedrock?

Yes. We've built generative AI on Amazon Bedrock for production use, including a pipeline that extracts and standardizes data from Epic medical records and a knowledge base that lets a manufacturer's staff ask questions across manuals and drawings. We also use Bedrock-hosted models for AI agents.

Does our data stay in our own AWS account?

Yes, that's the default we design for. We build in your AWS account, so data and models stay under your control, and Amazon Bedrock doesn't use your prompts or data to train its models. AWS IAM roles scope access to what each service needs.

Can you help us move to AWS?

Yes. Our cloud migration services cover assessing your applications, choosing a strategy for each, migrating in stages, and cutting over while the business keeps running. A wine retailer's site moved to AWS Lambda component by component. See Cloud Migration for how we plan the move and the cloud bill.

How do you keep AWS costs under control?

We size services to real demand, favor serverless where traffic is uneven, and review spend once real usage comes in. A wine retailer cut database costs by about 50% after moving to Amazon Aurora, and its compute costs fell to a fraction of prior levels. See cloud cost optimization.

Who owns what you build?

You do. You own everything we build, in your own AWS account. We don't sell software licenses or a platform, so there's no ongoing fee to use your own system, and knowledge transfer and documentation are services we can provide at handoff.
